The Special Committee tasked with transferring the ownership of the Islamic institutes to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government held its first meeting to discuss the ongoing procedures and to deal with occurring problems. The Council of Ministers in the Kurdistan Regional Government on (14.4.2015) according to document number (7347) decided to form a special committee to transfer the ownership of the Islamic institutes of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. “The committee discussed several matters on the rights of students and teachers of those institutes, including personal and bonus benefits for teachers and deans, as well as the infrastructure of these institutes. The Kurdistan Regional Government has decided to transfer the ownership of all religious schools owned by the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs to the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, in order to hinder the thought of fundamentalism. The decision includes the transfer of an overall 39 Islamic schools at the intermediate and secondary stages to the Ministry of Education, and six Islamic institutes to the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
