Kirkuk Honours Dr. Yusuf Goran

 The civil society organizations in Kirkuk city have honored Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for his continuous efforts in serving the Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan Region.

On September 17, 2015 the civil society organizations in Kirkuk city in a ceremony presented their presents to Dr. Yusuf Goran.

The ceremony started with standing silent for a moment for the pure soles of the martyrs. Dr. Aso Mamand, Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Politburo Member, a number of governmental and party officials as we as representatives of civil society organizations in Kirkuk province attended the ceremony. Rizgar Haji Hama presented the speech of the organizers of the ceremony which was held in Sirwan Talabani Hall.  The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research

“This honoring ceremony is a sign for a united stance of all political sides in Kirkuk regarding a Kurdish minister who is sincerely servicing Kirkuk,” Rizgar Haji Hama said.

He also said: “Recently, we as all civil society organizations in Kirkuk, visited most the KRG ministries in order they to cooperate Kirkuk. Similarly, we delivered our demands to Dr. Yusuf Goran who positively responded and in the first step he implemented some of our demands, such as admitting a large number of students from areas outside the Kurdistan Region within Masters and Doctoral Degree Programs in the Kurdistan region universities, accordingly nearly after 12 years of the Operation Iraqi Liberation an aim of Mr. Jalal Talabani (Mam Jalal) and the people of Kirkuk has been achieved.”

In another part of the ceremony, Aso Mamand presented honor medal to Dr. Yusuf Goran. Then, representatives of the political sides and Kirkuk civil society organizations presented their honouring gifts to Dr. Yusuf Goran.

Addressing this special ceremony, Dr. Yusuf Goran said: “I thank this all comrades, the political sides, and the civil society organizations for organizing this ceremony. Progressing education and serving the Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan Region is a national priority by the KRG until these areas officially will be a part of the Kurdistan Region.”

“What we have done until now is a small part from a larger plan to serve the area because we have had many projects, but current the financial crisis hindered our projects,” he added.

 Addressing the brave Peshmerga forces, Dr. Yusuf Goran said: “I thank the brave Peshmerga forces, especially at areas outside the Kurdistan Region, who sincerely strife for protecting the sacred territory of Kurdistan. We are here to serve our people, thanks to the Peshmerga forces.”

He also said: “The opening of Charmu University in Chamchamal is another perspective of KRG to serve these areas, thus for the coming 2015-2016 academic year Charmu University has opened two departments in Qarahanjir Sub-District to receive students from Kirkuk.” 

He stressed that for the coming 2015-2016 academic year all graduates of 12th preparatory class from the Kurdish Education Schools in Kirkuk can apply to study in Kurdistan Region Universities, and will have equal chances similar to students from other Kurdistan region areas.

He stressed that serving the higher education sector at areas outside the Kurdistan Region is sourcing from a general policy by the KRG, clarifying that the KRG Ministry of Higher Education will make every step to serve Kirkuk and other areas outside the Kurdistan Region without having any political and ethnic purposes, promising to implement more projects and services to these areas.

Later, Sherzad Rashid Kaka, Director of Kurdish Study in Kirkuk Directorate General of Education, said: “Fortunately today Dr. Yusuf Goran opened a big gate towards the hopes of people of Kirkuk, accordingly students from Kirkuk city and other areas outside the Kurdistan region after completing the preparatory stage will have access to higher education institutions in the Kurdistan region.”

After the ceremony, Dr. Yusuf Goran and Dr. Ahmed Fathulla, Director of KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Office in Kirkuk, jointly listened to a number of civilians and promised to deal with their problems.
