In the recent meeting of the Council of Education and Higher Education it has been decided that the national ranking system to be implement for all universities and institutions run by the KRG ministry of Higher Education. The system will be based upon scientific and quality.
On April 19, 2015 the Council of Education and Higher Education held its first meeting. The meeting was supervised by Nechirvan Barzani, the KRG Premier, and Qubad Talabani, the KRG Deputy Prime Minister. The KRG ministers of Higher Education, Education, Finance and Planning were also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, reports by both the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and the KRG Ministry of Education were presented, and then the attendees made several decisions.
Regarding the higher education, the meeting shed light on the importance of identifying the priorities of both the public and private sector and their needs during setting the higher education plan for the of Diploma, Masters and PhD degrees. For this purpose it has been decided that the KRG ministries to be informed, accordingly they submit all their needs to the Council of Education and Higher Education. Then, the qualities of Kurdistan Region universities were discussed, and it has been decided the national ranking system to be implement for all universities and institutions run by the KRG ministry of Higher Education. According to this system the universities and other institutions will be evaluated according to scientific and quality standards and they will be ranked, accordingly this will created scientific competition among the higher education institutions.
Regarding the KRG Ministry of Higher Education, namely the national campaign for building schools, the council decided a project for this purpose with news sources of financing to be prepared, and the KRG to fully facilitate with the project. The council also discussed the educational conference, which is scheduled to be held next month. The council also discussed the industrial education, and it has been decided that the issue to be addressed to the related ministries, so that, in the future and as a project, to be submitted to the KRG council of ministers for ratification.
In another topic, the council discussed the Kurdish education in the areas outside the KRG administration. The council stressed on furthering the Kurdish education in those areas, and needed assistance to be offered. It has also been decided that schools, that the education is in the English language, to be developed. The council also decided schools renovations to be implemented within the summer vacation period, and training the teachers to be more enhanced.
The decision of establishing the Council of Education and Higher Education was made in the session number (6) on October, 19. 2014. The aim of this council is making plans and strategies for Education and Higher Education in the Kurdistan Region.
