Aiming at changing and developing education curriculum and to bring them up according to the modern and contemporary standards, and in the presence of Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Research and Development Directorate of the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research met with heads of legal departments of all universities in the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting, which was held on Monday 06/08/2015 in the meeting hall of the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s divan in Erbil,   was attended by Dr. Karim Abdoul, Adviser to the Minister, and Dr. Nezhdat Akraee, Head of the Research and Development Directorate.

At the beginning of the meeting Dr. Nezhdat Akraee said: “This is a consultative meeting for changing and the developing programs of all faculties and departments of all Kurdistan region universities.”

For his part, Dr. Yusuf Goran said: “We seek to change all curriculums of all faculties and departments of all Kurdistan region universities, but at first we need a clear strategy and mechanism. We do not want to make these changes centrally as in the past or resorting to conferences and seminars, but we want the universities to have autonomy in changing the curriculum of their departments.”

“We want to hear all the views that would arise in this process. For example in changing the curriculum of the colleges of law, we want to hear from the related sides, the lawyers syndicate, the general attorney, and the courts. We do not want the universities only to grant certificates; rather we want the graduates to seek jobs after graduation,” Dr. Yusuf Goran said

“The Bologna Process aims at the same result, especially in the field of assessing students and the ability levels, before graduation. Now the Kurdistan region steps towards an open market, and a large number of companies has came to the region, thus in addition to changing the curriculums, furthering the English language proficiency should be accelerated in order to prepare  graduates for the new market needs in the region,” the minister added.

The attendees discussed several other points, ideas and proposals to further enhance works, and serving science, academic aspects, students and accordingly the job market and the Kurdish society.
