His Excellency Professor Dlawer A. Ala`Aldeen the minister of higher education and scientific research received at his office, the ambassador of Canada to Iraq and the accompanying delegation which included the commercial attaché.
The General Director of Scholarships and Cultural Affairs at the ministry, Dr. Govand Sherwani and other officials in the ministry has attended the meeting, the report said on 21-12-2011.
His Excellency Professor Dlawer shed light on the necessity to build and strengthen the mutual interests between the two countries especially in higher education sector. ’’ We have given our students the choice to attend the university they prefer based on our core condition and that is to choose the best center of excellence’’ His Excellency said.
Professor Dlawer also spoke about the main goals of the ministry by working from many aspects to prepare influential and skilled staff, and the scholarship program HCDP is one of the main implements to achieve the goals, in addition to the fully refurbished internal PhD program which will enable the candidates to be sent abroad to attain knowledge.
Therefore Canada could benefit from all the above programs in addition to students who will study Bachelor on their own expenses by receiving them in its universities and academic institutes. His Excellency suggested that opening an office for coordination and visa processing would greatly assist in the process of admission to Canadian universities; the office may become a milestone for other activities such as trade.
The Canadian ambassador and the accompanying delegation showed their happiness to see the ground-breaking reform in the higher education sector in Kurdistan Region.
They have also promised to deliver His Excellency`s suggestions and comments to the higher education officials in Canada to work towards implementing them.
