Aiming at activating job centers at Kurdistan region universities, a delegation from IREKS organization visited the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Divan.
In the meeting Laura Masson, Head of Projects at IREKS, presented a summary of their latest activities and works on the job centers. Dr. Khatab Shexani, Director General of Administration and Finance at the KRG ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dilan Aqrawi, Advisor to the KRG Deputy Premier attended the meeting. She also indicated the issues they are facing, and offered some proposals on future joint projects with the ministry.
Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stressed the importance of the project and said: “Alongside the projects of the National Ranking of Kurdistan Region Universities, and the Project of Raising the Standard of English Language, the project of Career Centers is one of the vital projects of our ministry, and the KRG is fully supporting succeeding this project.
He also thanked IREKS organization which have continuous contact with the ministry for and the Kurdistan Region Universities for activating the Career Centers.
During the meeting, which was held on September 21, 2015, Dr. Yusuf Goran emphasized: “The importance of the Career Centers is that they bridge the universities with the Kurdistan Region’s job market. It also enables undergraduate students to be acquainted with the job market, companies, and the Kurdistan region’s private sector. Meanwhile and through this project the companies will be acquainted with the abilities and expertise of undergraduate students.”
He clarified that currently the ministry is working to change curriculum of the universities and the institutes, in a way that we will connect the related aspects within the curriculum to the job market needs and we have made practical steps in this framework.
Regarding the issues which are facing their works and activities, Dr. Yusuf promised IREKS organization to make follow ups and identify the issues and then find proper solutions for all the issues in order the higher education sector in the Kurdistan Region to be a part of Kurdistan Region’s economy, a crucial source of income for the region, and graduates to easily have job opportunities.
