The higher education delegation from KRG, along with Afghan, Nepali, Cambodian and Indian delegates attended the Malaysian Qualification Agency MQA internship program, which took place from 12 to 22 December 2011 in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The Kurdish delegation included Dr. Sherwan Kafoor, Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Dilan Roshani, IT Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Dana Tofik, Director of Quality Assurance at Silémaní University and Ms. Shilér Ibrahim, Director of Quality Assurance at Duhok University.
The program was organized to introduce participants to the MQA experience for creating an academic quality assurance program to insure the quality of Malaysian higher education providers. The participating countries are in the process of creating a functional QA infrastructure that will support clear guidelines for establishing a reliable higher education system. The program covered the acts, regulations, documentations and testimonies which can be useful to all participating countries. The Malaysian experience is of particular interest to the Kurdistan Region due to the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity of both countries as well as mutual ambitions to create high quality higher education systems.
Along with this internship program, the delegation visited several Malaysian universities such as The University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Multi Media University (MMU) where experiences were shared relating to Self-Accreditation and Quality Assurance.
