Dr. Yusuf Goran: Next September we will announce the National Ranking for Kurdistan Region Universities

                                                    Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research said universities and scientific bodies should apply international standards to find a place on the global academic map, adding that the ministry has began to map a new way to ensure quality.

This came during presenting a symposium on Sunday 03/05/2015, in Piramerd Hall at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Sulaimani Polytechnic University. The symposium was organized by the ministry in cooperation with the Kurdistan Academics Assembly. Governor of Sulaimani, Dr. Aso Faraidun, and a large number of academics attended the symposium.
 
"The ministry embarked on the application of a new road map to ensure the quality and ranking of Kurdistan region universities as it seeks to establish a foothold on the global academic map", Dr. Yusuf Goran said noting that "The first step in this area is the plan of the ministry to apply the national ranking system for public and private universities in the region, accordingly this will create honest competition between the universities, and raise scientific standard of our universities. We will announce the national ranking system for public and private universities in the region on next September.”  
 
"The commitment to global standards, including the Bologna System, is an indispensable step to enter the Kurdistan region universities and scientific bodies within the global scientific standards,” he added. 
 
Mr. Goran also stressed on the need for broadly focus on scientific research, indicating that the universities in the Kurdistan Region did not made required progress in the field of scientific research."
 
“Scientific researchers are not only important for universities, but they also important for furthering the society and the individuals. According to official statistics, form the ISI since 2003 until 2012 less than (3000) scientific research was done at the level of all Iraq, and his ratio is very low.
 
The KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research pointed out various scientific researches carried out in various countries, including over the same period of years, saying " 55000 scientific researchers have been completed in the Republic of Egypt, and 235000 researches have been done in Turkey, 156000 researches have been done in Iran, 153000 researches have been done in Israel, where its population is near to Kurdistan Region’s population”.
 
With regard to scientific research in the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Goran said, “Making scientific research in the region is not at the required level, and need to be addressed more broadly," pointing out that "During the past year, 1378 researches have been completed in the region, where we have 7000 professors, 14 public universities and 15 private universities.
