Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, during a visit abroad visited several German scientific institutes in Göttingen university town.
Prof. PolaKhanaka, Head of Kurdistan Commission for Scientific Research, accompanied Dr. Yusuf Goran.
During the visit both sides discussed cooperation and coordination between Kurdistan Region and Germany universities, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA).
They both visited Georg-August University, which is a public comprehensive research university, and Max Planck institutes in the city of Göttingen. They were welcomed by Georg-August University president and vice-presidents.
In a meeting, both sides expressed their cooperation and fulfilling joint scientific projects. Accordingly, Georg-August University, and Max Planck institutes decided to cooperate with Kurdistan Region universities and admit Kurdish students of Masters and PhD programs in all fields free of charge.
During a tour to Georg – August University colleges, Dr. Yusuf Goran and Prof. PolaKhanaka were welcomed by deans of eight colleges. During the tour and in separate meetings with the deans, both sides discussed educations systems, Student exchanging programs, and joint scientific projects. Deans of Georg-August University colleges, showed their readiness to freely admit students of Masters and PhD programs in English language. They also decided to cooperate with KRG Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research and Scientific institutes to implement joint scientific projects.
Then, in the presence of Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, a MOA was signed between The University of Göttingen and Sulaimani Polytechnic University and Prof. PolaKhanaka, Head of Kurdistan Commission for Scientific Research.
On his part, Dr. Yusuf Goran expressed his delight for mutual projects and offering scholarships for Kurdish students to visit University of Göttingen's institutes. He also described promoting scientific ties between Kurdistan Region universities and The University of Göttingen as crucial.
Efforts by the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the KRG new cabinet entered into a new development phase, and this achievement to students of higher education is another step towards rising Kurdistan region's scientific standards.
"This scientific visit, creating cooperation as well as joint project, promoting chances of higher education in abroad , and joint scientific research, are part from roadmap and plan of KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Accordingly, we deem our visit to Germany as vital and fruitful. Efforts are being made circles of such scientific relations with foreign universities in general, and with Kurdistan Region universities to be enhanced.
