A joint environmental board to be formed between MHE and EPIB

 The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is working with the Kurdistan Region’s Environmental Protection and Improvement Board (EPIB) to form a joint environmental board to protect and preserve the region’s environment.

The formation of the joint board is upon a suggestion by Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

On Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 Dr. Yusuf Goran received Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim, Portfolio Minister for the Affaires of Kurdistan Region’s Environmental Protection and Improvement Board, and an accompanying delegation.

Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim called for further cooperation and coordination between both sides for the purpose of utilizing from researches by Kurdistan region’s universities on environment and prioritizing environmental researches on soil, water, and air of the region. 

On his part, Dr. Yusuf Goran indicated the importance of preserving and keeping the region’s environment clean. He also affirmed that his ministry wants to cooperate and participate in the raising awareness campaigns on environment and conducting environmental researches at Kurdistan region’s universities as well as steps towards keeping the region’s environment clean.

Accordingly, Dr. Yusuf Goran suggested the formation of a joint environmental board in order to set strategic work plans , joint plans and programs in a way that this board to discuss and settle joint environmental issues between both sides.

On his part, Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim reiterated his support for Mr. Goran’s

suggestion.

Finally, both sides agreed to work on the establishment of the proposed joint board.
