The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research said, “As it was the people and KRG always support the refugees and serving them.”
This speech of Dr. Yusuf Goran, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, came at a workshop about creating a mechanism to receive the Syrian Refugees at Kurdistan Universities based on the scholarship seats and offers have been provided by the EU.
In the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research released a speech and said, “Accepting the refugees in Kurdistan Universities at this current time will be a significant subject, because previously the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research accepted the them since we didn’t have financial crisis, but having the financial crises and increasing the numbers of refugees in Kurdistan made the process be more difficult.” Dr. Yusuf Goran explained more and said that regarding that study will transform the lives of people and the refugees want to change their lives to a better one.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research also said that he thanked the DAAD and British Council and the Word Refugee Organization in which have given amount of money to the refugees especially to the ones who want to keep their studying continued for bachelor, master, and PhD till they will be able to study in parallels based system at Kurdistan Universities. Dr. Yusuf Goran announced, “Nevertheless, that there is a great pressure upon Kurdistan Universities and faced a great financial crisis, but still we welcome the suggestion and never ignore this case.”
In the meeting, the mechanism of accepting the students were discussed and right after the discussion the whole aspects of the mechanism were created.
Previously and during a meeting with the general manager of DAAD organization with Dr. Yusuf Goran, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that the DAAD organization had decided to offer some scholarship seats to the refugees who live in Kurdistan. Also, some number of the seats will be dedicated to the people of Kurdistan especially for the ones their financial status is not good. Also, this offer will be parallel system based of study at Kurdistan Universities for the master, bachelor and PhD.
