Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Rekawt Hama Rashid, the KRG Minister of Health, jointly supervised the joint meeting of both ministries in order to deal with some issues that are related to the work of both ministries.
The meeting was held on Wednesday August 12, 2015 in Erbil in attendance of councilors and general directors of both ministries.
At the start of the meeting, attendees discussed the importance of holding such joint meetings, especially meetings related to the medical sector and solving issues related to this sector, setting plans and proper mechanisms for the future works of both ministries through creation of permanent contact and cooperation about the medical colleges and faculties in the Kurdistan Region universities.
In another part of the meeting, organizing office hours of specialized doctors between both ministries, the issue of transferring the service of expert physicians, equalizing academic certificates, and the issue of medical science departments in the Kurdistan Region universities were discussed. After detailed discussion and consultation with the attendees, it has been decided that further cooperation between the universities and the health offices within the cities to be made. The attendees also made other proper decisions in this regard.
In the meeting it has been decided that a supreme committee between both ministries for cooperation on health and higher education to be formed. The committee is scheduled to meet every three months, with the presence of representatives from both ministries. The committee’s task will be discussing and dealing with joint issues related to both ministries.
At the end of the meeting, several topics related to the demands and suggestions by health offices in Erbil and Duhok Governorates, and the Syndicate of Medical Employees were discussed, and proper decisions were made in this regard. It has also been decided that both ministries to jointly meet with the Presidency of the KRG Council of Ministers on topics related to budget and providing needs, and discuss these topics with the Presidency of KRG Council of Ministers.
It is scheduled that similar such meetings to be held between the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and other Kurdistan Region’s ministries and agencies, in order to improve services to the local citizens and dealing with the issues.
