KRG MHE opens 38 New Departments in the Region’s Public Universities

 Aiming at filling the market’s needs and utilizing from the local capabilities, the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has showed agreement on opening 38 new scientific departments in the Kurdistan Region’s public universities for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year.

 “After the universities presented proposals for opening news departments, our ministry has evaluated the proposals through the General Directorate of Inspection and Quality Assurance. Later, based on the ministry’s decisions, instructions, and strategies, evaluation of the projects, taking into consideration the Kurdistan region’s current needs, and the universities’ capacities, our ministry showed agreement on opening 38 news scientific departments in the Kurdistan Region’s public universities for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year,” Abas Akram, the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Spokesman told our website.

“The opening of these news departments will provide more opportuning for the graduates of the twelfth preparatory class to join the public universities,” he added.

“The new 38 departments include two departments which will be opened for the first time in the areas outside the Kurdistan region administration. The two new departments, which are (General Administration and Accountancy), are based in Qarahanjir and they related to Charmu University. The purpose of opening these two new departments are providing education opportunities for those students who finish the twelfth preparatory class in Kurdistani areas outside the Kurdistan region’s administration,” the spokesman clarified. 

“Annually the universities are proposing the opening of new departments to our ministry, but some of the proposals will be refused by the Quality Assurance Committee inside the Ministry’s Divan due to shortcomings within their proposals.

Most of the new 38 departments will admit students for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year,” He concluded.
