Leicester University to open Campus in Soran Town

 Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research said the opening of a Leicester University campus in Soran town is a vital scientific achievement for the town and the Kurdistan Region.

 This statement by Dr. Yusuf Goran came during presenting a speech in the ceremony of signing an agreement between Soran University and Leicester University for opening
 
a Leicester University campus in Soran town.
 On April 28th Dr. Yusuf Goran visited Soran University and he was received by Dr. Muslih Mustafa, President of Soran University, and many other staff and officials of the
university.
 
In a meeting, Mr. Goran expressed his delight for visiting the university and on behalves of the KRG PM and the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research expressed his ministry as we as the KRG’s support for signing the agreement.
 
Farhan Jawhar, Kurdistan Region Parliament Lawmaker, Dr.  Amanj Saeed, Councillor to the KRG Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Affairs, and Professor Paul Boyle, President of Leicester University, was also attended the meeting. After signing the agreement, Dr. Yusuf Goran also hoped joint relations between both sides to be promoted and to be a good start for deepening joint scientific and academic ties for furthering the area and the higher education in the region.
Then, President of Leicester University thanked the KRG PM, and the KRG Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research for their support and facilitations for succeeding their projects in the Kurdistan Region.
 
He also reiterated that there are good opportunities for joint work in the region and expressed his delight for their working with the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Soran University.
 
Then, they visited several campus and scientific centres related to the university. Later, Dr. Yusuf Goran met with students of the university and discussed their issues and promised to revisit the university to supervise a meeting of Soran University Council, which will be devoted for dealing with problems of the students.
 
Next, Dr. Yusuf Goran attended the ceremony of signing an agreement between Soran University and Leicester University for opening a Leicester University campus in Soran town.
 
In his speech, Dr. Yusuf Goran said: “Leicester University is a leading and advanced university worldwide and the opening of a Leicester University campus in Soran town is a vital scientific achievement for the town and the Kurdistan Region.”
 
“Soran town has big historic civilizations like the Masasi civilization. Moreover, this town has made big sacrifices in our liberation movement and had big role in the Kurdish revolutions. Thus, as a faith to this town and its people we can serve them via opening this new campus,” Dr. Yusuf Goran said.
 
 “Our university is a multi-cultural university and I am glad to see that in Soran town the culture of coexistence of the different cultures are prevailing. Our university has many important projects for the Kurdistan Region, including creating the agricultural map of Kurdistan region, as well projects in the area of antiques and archaeology. In the near future we will make Soran town the centre of research” Professor Paul Boyle said.
