Joining Universities to the Job Market will be further promoted

 Aiming at joining Kurdistan region universities to the region’s job market, the KRG through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is implementing the project of promoting capabilities of graduates via opening a job center at every university.

The goal behind opening the job centers is to train university students and graduates on how to apply and find job opportunities, as well as joining the core of education curriculums to the Kurdistan region’s job market needs. 

For discussing this vital project, Qubad Talabani, the KRG Deputy Premier, and Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Wednesday September 16th, 2015 in Erbil supervised a meeting of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Council, where the Head of General Directorate of Studies & Planning and Follow up, the KRG Spokesman, and Presidents of all Kurdistan Region Universities attended.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Yusuf Goran thanked the KRG Deputy Premier for supervising the meeting and discussing such an important project for developing the Kurdistan region and its future.

Mr. Goran indicated: “Working for opening the job centers at our universities and achieving the goals of these centers were among the main tasks of our ministry during the current academic year.”

In another part of the meeting, Qubad Talabani applauded the Kurdistan region universities for supporting and promoting the job centers, and finding job opportunities via the project of promoting capabilities, pointing out this project will bridge the universities to the region’s private sector job market.

“The current crises in which the Kurdistan region are passing through is an opportunity to review the overall ruling system in Kurdistan, especially sectors of higher education and the job market,” Mr. Talabani said.

  He also said: “Our decision towards opening these centers is sourcing from the job market’s needs and cooperation between the universities and the private sector, as the goal of these centers are joining Kurdistan region universities to the region’s job market and organizing the human resources of the society. 

He stressed that the KRG Council of Ministers will be the main assistant in succeeding the duty and goals of those centers, and will provide further opportunities for training as well as reinforcing the plans. He addressed the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the universities to further support the project in the future, and to be the ministry’s main priority, program and policy. 

In another part of his speech, the KRG Deputy Premier emphasized the importance of the project of National Ranking of Kurdistan Region Universities and said: “This project will be implemented by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, accordingly this project will create the sole of competition among the universities in order all universities to further enhance their capabilities and developing the academic and scientific standards among them.” 

Recently, the KRG Deputy Premier’s Office with the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research jointly worked on the project of establishing job centers at the Kurdistan region’s universities in order to train Kurdistan region’s students and graduates, finding job opportunities for them and preparing them to work in the private sector.
