Health and Safety Directorate announces its Annual Activities

The Health and Safety Directorate in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Kurdistan Regional Government announced the annual activity of the previous academic year, offering several suggestions and ideas, aiming at providing protection and reducing the health risks as well as providing a healthy atmosphere.

Supervised by Dr. Amanj Saeed, adviser to the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, On Sunday, the Health and Safety Directorate held a broad meeting in the building of the KRG of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The health and safety managers of all universities and institutes across the Kurdistan Region attended the meeting.

Dr. Brwa Saeed, the Director of Health and Safety Directorate presented a report on the directorate’s activities for the past academic year. He also indicated several proposals, ideas, and projects for the coming academic years, including providing protection and reducing the health risks as well as providing a healthy atmosphere in the higher education institutions.

He also highlighted making a plan for the next academic year, as well as plans and preparations to participate in the project of the National Ranking of Kurdistan Region Universities, the proposed Project of Toxic Wastes Magazine, and discussing the project of the Draft Law of Health and Professional Safety.

Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education announced earlier that the ministry has begun applying a new road map to ensure the quality and ranking Kurdistan Region Universities aiming at establishing a foothold on the global academic map according to the Bologna Process.   Dr. Brwa Saeed said: “The first step in this area is the plan of the ministry to apply the project of the National Ranking of Kurdistan Region Universities, including the public and private universities. He pointed out the application of this project will create academic competition among the universities and will develop the level of their scientific standards, to develop their weak points and strengthening their strong points.

“Our directorate in cooperation with their own departments in all universities and institutes will release a magazine entitled Toxic Wastes in the next September which will specially focuses on health and safety,” he added.

He also stressed the need to approve the Health and Safety draft low in the Kurdistan Region’s Parliament.

The meeting also discussed several additional points pertaining health, safety and the activities of the directorates in all parts of the region, as well as discussed professional health and safety for the universities, needs for the next academic year, working conditions, causes of accidents, injuries and occupational diseases, and precautions to prevent their recurrence in the future.
