Qubad Talabani: Coordination between Higher Education and Job Market is a must

 Qubad Talabani, the KRG Deputy Premier stressed on the need for coordination between the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the job market.

This statement by Talabani came during his visit to Koya University.

Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Goran Azad, Lawmaker of the Kurdistan Region Parliament, accompanied the KRG Deputy Premier.

They were received by Dr. Weli Mahmoud, President of Koya University, and members of Koya University’s Council.

In a meeting, the KRG Deputy Premier congratulated Dr. Weli Mahmoud for taking office in his new post as President of Koya University.

Qubad Talabani closely examined issues of the university, and said: “Your demands will be taken into consideration, and we will try to deal with your issues. I am glad to see that Koya University is one of the leading universities at the level of Kurdistan Region with a good reputation and this university is at continuous development.”

Regarding the role of the universities and the private sector in the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Talabani said: “Coordination between the KRG Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the job market is a must; meanwhile more efforts should be made for promoting scientific research in the universities, and the researches should be utilized in serving the Kurdistan Region.”

He also indicated that the universities should have a key role in boosting the private and the public sectors.

In another part of the meeting, Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, pointed out that, as an attempt for dealing with unemployment, his ministry with the assistance of the office of the KRG Deputy Premier have established job centers in the universities and those centers will changed into directorates.
