Kurdistan Region is regarded as an Independent State in Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme

                                                                   Dr. Yusuf Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on November 11th, 2015 met with Dr. Csaba Vezekényi, the Hungarian Consul General in the Kurdistan region. 

During the meeting Dr. Csaba Vezekényi said: “The Kurdistan region has been regarded as an independent state in our scholarship programs. We are proud with the Peshmerga forces, and we will be continuing in our support for the Kurdistan region.”In the meeting both sides discussed bilateral academic, political, military and diplomatic ties.
 
Dr. Csaba Vezekényi indicated the (Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme), which are funded by the Hungarian ministries of Foreign Affairs and Humanitarian Capabilities and Tempus Public Foundation. He said that the Kurdistan region is included in the program as an independent state. He clarified that out of the 30 allocated seats for the Kurdistan region, 22 candidates has been approved, but only 15 candidates started with pursuing their education. He said by the end of this month another round of the program will be announced. He urged applicants from the region to accelerate in filling their applications and fill the rest of the allocated seats for the region in the program.
 
the Hungarian Consul General in the Kurdistan region stressed that they are supporting the Kurdistan region in European Parliament, NATO and the Hungarian political institutions, accordingly Hungary has asked that 300 million Euros ,as aids, to be donated to the Kurdistan region.
 
Regarding the war against terror, Dr. Csaba Vezekényi said: “We are proud with your Brave Peshmerga forces, stressing that his country is planning to enhance the level of its military cooperation and training of Peshmerga forces.
 
On his part, Dr. Yusuf Goran highly appreciated the role and support of Hungary to the Kurdistan Region, pointing out that they want to develop bilateral ties on all aspects with Hungary.
 
 
  Dr. Yusuf Goran expressed his delight that the Kurdistan region has been included in the (Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme) as an independent state, calling the number of Doctoral seats for the region to be increased. He also thanked the Hungarian government for prioritizing and making research on the Archaeological sites in the region.
