On the 17th
of January, 2012, Professor Jamal Rasul Muhammad Ameen who is a Senior Advisor
in the Ministry of Planning delivered his professorial Lecture in the
University of Glamorgan, United Kingdom.
The title of his
PublicInaugural Lecture was:
From Bayesian
Statistics to Saddam’s Kurdish Genocide
The lecture was
opened by the Vice Chancellor of the university and later closed by the Dean of
the Faculty of Advanced Technology and a number of professors, lecturers and
students from the university were present.
Members of the public including a number of those who had gained their
doctorates under his supervision attended the lecture.
This activity took
place on the request of the Vice Chancellor and is one of the traditions within
the British Academia only for those who succeed in achieving excellence and
obtain the title of full professor in their areas of expertise. The lecture is expected to cover the
professor’s scientific achievements and delivered in a language and at a level
that the general public understand.
Professor Jamal
used this opportunity to highlight a window of the dark periods that passed
over Kurdistan and has used his expertise in statistics to estimate the human
cost of Saddam’s tyrannical period in Kurdistan and ended with a video clip
showing the beauty of Kurdistan and the developments that the area has seen
after passage of these dark days.
The lecture was
delivered with a clear success and appreciation of all the audience who joined
a buffet lunch that was organised by the Vice Chancellor.
