Seminar on Planning and Development

To move forward in the process of planning and development in the Kurdistan Region, under the auspices and in presence of H.E. Dr. Ali Sindi, the KRG Minister of Planning, in attendance of Jan O. Karlsson, Sweden's former Minister for Development Cooperation, Migration and Asylum Policy, Jan Nordlander, Sweden’s former Ambassador to Germany, Klaus Dünnhaupt, CEO of the German Association of Experts in the Field of Migration and Development Cooperation (AGEF), Lisa Pelling and Peter Weiderud, Swedish senior political advisors, and the participation of 42 directors general from various government departments, the KRG Ministry of Planning held an extensive seminar on the areas of planning, development, procurement and contracts on May 25, 2010.  

At the outset, the Minister of Planning highlighted the importance of the seminar in raising the level of officials in the KRG institutions on planning, procurement, administrative development, coordination with institutions in the developed countries, and functioning in accordance with advanced international systems. In addition, Dr. Sindi thanked AGEF Organization for the services they render and their coordination with the KRG’s institutions. Dr. Sindi further stressed that we should make use of the experience of the developed countries through such seminars and lectures delivered by the specialized participants.

Then, each of Mr. Dünnhaupt and Weiderud made addresses outlining the development the Kurdistan Region has witnessed so far, namely in the domains of systematic planning and strategy, and application of advanced systems. They also referred to the activities and programs implemented by AGEF, and the role of the German Consulate in the Region and its cooperation with the KRG with respect to strategic aspects and international relations.

It is worth mentioning “Planning and Development”, “Ways to achieve Development”, and “Procurement” would be the key lecture subjects of the seminar that lasts 3 days.
