Erbil – H.E. Dr. Ali Sindi, KRG Minister of Planning, received Mr. Takema
Sakamoto, chief representative of JICA in Iraq and his accompanied delegation.
The meeting discussed
JICA's activities in the Kurdistan Region in general and in particular three
major projects costing around 600 million USDs, implemented within the
framework of the Japanese soft-loan to the Iraqi federal government. The three
projects are reconstruction of the electricity sector in the three KRG
governorates, improvement of water delivery to Halabja city to improve quantity
and quality and construction of hydropower station in Deraluk in Duhok
governorate to increase electricity production in the Region. It is worth
mentioning that these projects are co-financed by the KRG with 10% contribution
of the total budget.
Dr. Sindi extended the Kurdistan government and people's gratitude to
the Japanese government and people and reiterated the MoP's willingness to
offer any assistant and facilitation.
