On 19/06/2011, H.E. Dr. Ali Sindi, KRG Minister of Planning, headed a meeting of the classification committee to discuss the outcomes of an assessment carried out by the MoP. In the meeting members of the classification committee, representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies and the heads of the contractors union and its branches in the three governorate participated.

Dr. Sindi presented a brief about the classification process in the MoP and highlighted the issues related to the classification of the foreign companies. Dr. Sindi added that the results of the assessment carried out by the MoP, indicate that a review process is needed in relation to the classification of the foreign companies. The purpose of the review, he added, is to further encourage the local and foreign companies to participate actively in the development process.

The participants appraised the important role played by the MoP in the classification and contacting processes; suggested to reform the classification system to make it more compatible with the international best practices and to enable more local and foreign companies to operate in the Region.
