On 18 October 2010 His Excellency Dr. Ali Sindi, Minister of Planning, received a German Training Cooperation (GTZ) delegation to discuss the Group’s projects in the Kurdistan Region. GTZ is a German state-owned institution and is been working on vocational training and technical education in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the last few years.
The delegation highlighted the important role that the Ministry of Planning can play and they perceive the ministry as an instrumental partner in implementing their project in the Kurdistan Region. Adding that Erbil as secure location can be used instead of Egypt or Jordan to deliver the trainings to Iraqi and Kurdistani trainees. For this purpose GTZ has been meeting with the ministries of Trade, Higher Education and Scientific Research as well as the ministry of Planning. The delegation emphasized that they are mainly looking into the partner country’s needs and interests to plan their projects.
His Excellency Dr. Ali Sindi welcomed the delegation and expressed the KRG’s appreciation of such initiatives. Adding that the KRG has been working on identifying the gaps and problems of vocational and technical trainings and the GTZ can play an important role in this regard.
His Excellency stated that the project concerns the economic development, which is multi-dimensional area and there must be synchronization with other projects and coordination with various agencies.
