June 2, 2010 – H.E. Dr. Ali Sindi, the KRG Minister of Planning, received Dr. Richard Schenz, Vice President of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, Mr. Sipan Abdulselam Berwari, assistant to the Commercial Counselor at the Austrian Consulate in Erbil, and representatives of 18 Austrian renowned companies. In the meeting, the commercial and industrial relations between the KRG and Austria, and the progress achieved in Kurdistan Region in the areas of economy, reconstruction, and security that has turned the Region into a vital economic and cultural focus, was discussed.

Afterwards, under the supervision of the Minister of Planning, another meeting was held at the Ministry’s meeting hall where Dr. Sindi mentioned in details the KRG’s policy, how to develop the Region, and the participation of the Austrian companies in the reconstruction projects of the Region. For this purpose, H.E. outlined the rules and regulations adopted by the KRG in this respect. Dr. Sindi also indicated that there are more than 1400 projects under implementation, and around 676 projects to be implemented within the 2010’s annual plan. The projects include the sectors of water, irrigation, agriculture, schools, and roads. Then, Dr. Schenz thanked the KRG Minister of Planning, explained the purpose behind their visit, and expressed their happiness to find such a secure and stable environment in the Region that allows Austria, along with other countries, to participate in the development of Kurdistan Region. Later, a number of questions and suggestions were raised by the attendants. It is worth mentioning that 18 companies from various sectors such as petroleum, gas, industry, energy, aviation, power, machinery, IT, food industry, etc., have recently visited Kurdistan in their third visit. They are expected to exhibit their goods, products, and services at the coming Erbil International Fair and build business relations with businessmen and contractors.
