Monday, June 13, 2011 – Dr. Ali Sindi, the KRG Minister of Planning, received Mr. Christopher Politis, Program Manager at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Dr. Sindi highlighted the projects of his Ministry on decentralization and their importance to the development of the governance system in the Region.
The delegation, on their part, referred to the UN’s projects in Iraq and distinguished the Kurdistan Region as a model for decentralized governance for the other parts of Iraq.
It is worth mentioning a National Conference on Decentralization in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is held on June 14-15, 2011 in Erbil. The aim of this event is to draw a roadmap for the Regional and Federal Governments in order to build a more decentralized system of governance.
